Little collage I did of a original character as an example for some students when I taught at First University this summer. She actually turned our pretty awesome so thought I’d share. :)

#my art #painting #mural #community art #art in schools
Back in June I painted a mural with the students of Cranfield Church of England Academy, a lower school close to my home in Bedfordshire.
The idea was to brighten up a particularly dull corner of the playground with an exciting painting that everyone in the school had a hand in making. Many pupils entered a competition to submit a design for the mural. Together with the mastermind of the project Mrs Mitford, we selected a design by Millie in Early Years . The winning entry can be seen above. I developed the design futher and we set to work. Over two days, every child in the school donned aprons and brushes to have a go at painting a bit of the wall.
I think we can all agree the results were pretty fantastic and really brightens up the playground. As a bonus it was a wonderful way to get young people excited about making art and working together to make something that will last (hopefully!) for many years to come. Fingers crossed I’ll get the chance to do something similar again sometime.
Many more pictures of the painting in process can be seen on the school’s website here.

Hello there! Sorry I’ve not posted in ages, this summer has been crazy busy but theres some exciting stuff coming (promise!).
In the meantime here was a fun little job I did a few weeks ago for Novus Theatre's forthcoming performance of The Twits by Roald Dahl. Meet Mr and Mrs Twit as re-imagined by myself. What a nasty looking couple!

#Circus of Illustration #bedfordshireillustrators #playing cards #doodle
Wowsers. Last night, the Castle Quay in Bedford was the place to be! TedX Bedford’s reunion drinks, a pop-up cycle cinema in the castle ruins and of course The Circus of Illustrations August Drink & Draw! This month we were doodling our very own deck of playing cards. Not to shabby a result considering it got dark about an hour in and most of these were drawn by phone light.
If you missed out, not to worry we have Drink & Draws every month and if you can’t wait till then, the Circus have a spot at Creative Bedfordshire next Thursday. The theme is Together is Better so we will be telling you all about what we’ve achieved as a group as well as doing some fun drawing games to get everyone in the creative mood. 7pm at the Ent Shed on Castle Road.
See you there!
Last nights D&D was SO MUCH FUN! I think the whole of Bedford made it out… O_o Great to see some new faces too. I think we’ve pretty much decided we need to make this playing card lark into a proper COI project. Keep your ears open. I’m sure there’ll be more soon.

So the foldee’s are printed, packaged and dropped off at BedPop and I am ridiculously excited to see them in-situ on Saturday. Myself and the Circus will also be running a foldee making workshop which everyone should totally come to if you’re around ;)
Hello Circus fans.
This Saturday is BedPop at Bedfords Tourist Information Centre and some of our Circus members have been very busy recently designing some fabulous Bedford themed Foldee’s to sell. We’ve got Ettiene Stott, Alastair Cook, James Wyatt, King Offa, Falkes de Breauté and even one of Dave the Mayor! So if you fancy getting your hands on one of these beauties then come along from 9.30-4.30 and get one while you can!
AND if you fancy having a go at designing one yourself, then join us between 2 and 4 for our Foldee making workshop. It’s totally free so bring the kids (or just yourself if, like us, you’re a big kid at heart) and let’s get doodling!

And here is one half of my contribution to BedPop!
This little guy is Sir Falkes de Breauté, an Anglo-English Knight and the fiendish knave who was responsible for the 40 day siege of Bedford Castle in 1224…
Me and my fellow circus members have created a whole set of these famous Bedfordian characters that you can cut out and make. They will be on sale for one day only at BedPop on the 27th July from the Tourist Information Center in Bedford Town. Pop in and get one while you can, and why not join us for our ‘Make your Own Foldee’ workshop while you’re at it! 2-4pm ;)
